Online counselling

Many of my clients come to my counselling room in Buxton for face to face sessions as this is the traditional way that therapy has been delivered. This is something that I have always valued because when a client comes into my room it allows me to see and experience the whole of them, particularly as communication (as we know) is not always verbally conveyed. However the growth of technology and the internet has meant that alternative options for counselling have emerged which for some clients has made the emotional support they need more accessible and convenient.

I offer online counselling through video-conferencing through a trusted and secure internet platform. As with my direct face to face counselling your privacy and confidentiality remains my utmost consideration at all times. Online counselling can feel different from ‘in person’ counselling but it allows you the convenience of having your session from the comfort of your own home or your own confidential space. There are both advantages and challenges in having counselling this way particularly in terms of what issues you might be bringing, so it is important that you work out what fits with your needs. It may be helpful to have a discussion about this prior to commencing counselling in order to ensure you choose what is right for you.

The recent Covid-19 pandemic resulted in many of my existing clients (at least temporarily), moving to online counselling which has allowed continuity and connection to be sustained which was valuable in those unprecedented circumstances.

It is important to be aware that online counselling is not for everybody and in some circumstances may not best meet your therapeutic needs and therefore requires careful consideration.
